One of the busiest days of the winter wildfire season occurred across North Texas on Tuesday, January 29th. The DOVFD was not spared from the action. Fires scorched thousands of acres across the area as extremely high winds and low humidity drove fires quickly out of control. DOVFD Brush 551 responded to a 300-400 plus acre fire in the City of Denton. Resources were slim as other firefighters were battling a 650 plus acre fire in Sanger. Read more below for a full report of the days activity...

Our website has been completely moved over to a new server and everything has been running well for the last week. It seems that most of our problems have now been resolved. We are still working on improving the audio from our live broadcast. Some things have been adjusted which will hopefully fix the problems there. We will continue to try all we can to make the audio better on the broadcast. 2007 was another busy year for the DOVFD and we have posted our statistics for the year in our downloads section. The department responded to 166 calls for service along with many other activities. Check out the downloads section for all of our statistics and other documents!

Effective March 4, 2008, Denton County Judge Mary Horn has lifted the Mandatory Burn Ban for all of Denton County. Conditions have improved, however will be reviewed weekly. Please continue to be aware that it is likely that it may dry out quickly and seasonal dry conditions could warrant another ban.
You may visit our Outdoor Burning page to review the Town of Double Oak's burn ordinance. If you have any questions, complaints, or concerns about the mandatory burn ban you may call the Denton County Department of Emergency Services at (940) 349-2840.
