Hands Only CPR

CPR/AED Class

Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department supports the American Heart Association's Hands-Only™ CPR. Most people who experience cardiac arrest at home, work or in a public location die because they don't receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. As a bystander, don't be afraid. Your actions can only help. When calling 911, you will be asked for your location. Be specific, especially if you’re calling from a mobile phone as that is not associated with a fixed address. Answering the dispatcher’s questions will not delay the arrival of help. We know that high quality, uninterrupted chest compressions initiated as soon as possible after an adult has cardiac arrest (their heart stops pumping) can triple their chances of survival. Learning Hands-Only CPR for adults is simple, fast and FREE!

This course is a one-hour, quick, upbeat, and informal class designed for community awareness of hands only CPR, and will teach participants how to start CPR right away and continue doing chest compressions until help arrives. Participants will learn about cardiac arrest and how to recognize it’s happening, the three simple steps of Hands-only CPR, and receive a basic overview of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Training in Hands-Only CPR gives members of our local community the ability to help save a life without using mouth-to-mouth ventilations.

This free class is open to any Double Oak resident ages 12 and up. Classes are held at the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department at 1110 Cross Timbers Dr, Double Oak, TX 75077. The class is led by a certified CPR instructor.

The next CPR class will be held on April 13, 2024 at 9am. Register for the class by sending the following information to LT551@dovfd.org.

    • First and Last name of each participant
    • Phone number of each participant to communicate any changes in schedule or pertinent information
    • Would you be interested in staying longer and receiving additional training (approximately 30-45 more minutes) to be fully CPR certified with the American Heart Association? Fee of $20 would be applied to cover the required processing costs.

Stop the Bleed Class

STOP THE BLEED® is one of our nation’s largest public health campaigns. Its goal is to save lives by training people across the country how to stop traumatic bleeding. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. It is imperative to quickly stop active blood loss. No matter how rapid the arrival of a professional emergency response team, bystanders will always be first on the scene, so we encourage everyone to become an immediate responder.

A Stop the Bleed class is currently not scheduled, but we are planning to hold a class this Summer of 2024. Please email LT551@dovfd.org for more information.

Fire Extinguisher Directions

Fire Extinguisher &
Home Fire Safety Class

Fire extinguishers are only valuable safety devices when you know how to use them. This is why we offer training in the use of fire extinguishers. This class will teach you about the ABCs of fire extinguishers, how to perform visual inspections and decide whether or not to attempt to fight a fire. We encourage you to register for one of the fire extinguisher training sessions below. We’ll discuss the common causes of fires and teach participants the P.A.S.S. method to effectively and safely extinguish a fire. We’ll also discuss home fire safety and the importance of fire evacuation plans, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, etc.

A fire extinguisher & home fire safety class is currently not scheduled, but we are planning to hold a class this Fall of 2024. Please email LT551@dovfd.org for more information.
